Monday, November 26, 2018

I hope you all had a satisfying Thanksgiving and are enjoying breathing again.

As noted below, there will be three test-taking opportunities during finals week. Thursday is our regularly scheduled final period.  The times and locations are as follows:

Tuesday, December 11th Mendocino 3000 10:30-12
Wednesday, December 12th Douglass Hall 109 10:30-12
Thursday, December 13th Douglass Hall 110 10:15-12:15
The Tuesday and Wednesday slots will require sign-up.

The tests will be graded on the day they are taken, and it will be possible for you to take tests on each day. However, it will not be possible to take more than one test during any given period.

Remember, there are no tutoring hours available during finals week.

Wednesday, November 21, 2018

Please read previous posts for campus-closure-related changes to syllabus.

Beginning 11/27 test taking during tutoring hours is no longer restricted to tests that are behind the cut-off date. Anyone may test during tutoring hours. Please note, however, that you need to sign up in advance. Kris does not routinely carry copies of all the tests.

Saturday, November 17, 2018

Please see the previous post before reading this one.

In consideration of the fact that we are losing yet another day (no class on 11/20) I am further adjusting the attendance requirements. The peer tutoring adjustment remains the same, but I will be sure that tutoring opportunities are available to everyone who wants them during our last four meeting. The final grade adjustment remains the same as well, however I will be sure to provide at least three testing opportunities during finals week.

A reminder that the Module 1 test cut-off date has now passed. This means that you need to acquire permission to take the Module 1 test by proving to me or a tutor that you are prepared to do so.

You may also take the Module 1 test with Kris during tutoring, but you must also go through the same process with her.

Remember that if you take a test with Kris it will not be graded in time for you to take another one in class on the same day.

Thursday, September 13, 2018

All tests taken today have been returned. Two students who took tests today have not shared a gmail account with me. Please do so by email so that I can share your folder with you.

One of you provided a yahoo email that is not registered with Google. Please register it or provide me a gmail account and let me know you have done so.

Thursday, September 6, 2018

All tests taken today have been returned.

I am going to be travelling from tonight thru Sunday, so my e-mail replies to you may be less prompt than usual.
The g-mail sign-up sheet has been removed and replaced with Kris McCandless' tutoring sign-up sheet. She becomes available next week.

If you have failed to sign up for a folder you need to seen me your name and gmail in order to receive your tests back.

Tuesday, September 4, 2018

All tests taken today have been returned.

Remember, if you see a big 😊on your paper, then you passed and you should move on to the next module. If you do not, then you need to retake the test. Be sure to figure out what you did wrong and ask if you can not. The 😊 will always be very obvious, so if you think one might be there but you aren't quite sure, it's not there.

Thursday is the last day of lecture. We'll cover a little bit more of the Module 1 stuff, then some Module 2 stuff.

Saturday, September 1, 2018

OK, some stuff:

  • Tuesday is the first day to take the Module 1 test.  In class I said I will lecture for 30 minutes on Tuesday, but it will actually be more like 35. This will give me 5 minutes to pass out the first test to those who are taking it. The rest of the time will be devoted to study.
  • Remember that in order to be eligible to take the test you need to have worked through all of the Module 1 materials on the schedule, including the two practice tests, and you must have passed the quiz at the designated level (in this case you must score at least a 34). Remember that even scoring 100% on a quiz does not entail that you are ready to take the test.
  • If you are taking a test, consider bringing ear plugs, as others are not required to be quiet as long as they are in the process of learning logic.
  • In class tutoring begins the 3rd week of the semester, as does outside of class tutoring with Kris McCandless.  Later this week there will be a sign-up sheet. Generally Kris's availability will be mornings before class.
  • I am also available to help you during my office hours!

Wednesday, August 29, 2018

As noted in class, I will do traditional lecturing on Thursday for the entire period. This will cover the first couple of worksheets in Module 1. I know the first week is hectic for a lot of you, but try to make sure you've watched the Introductory lecture and the first two Module 1 lectures.

Some of you have still not signed up for for a folder on the gmail sign-up sheet, so please do that soon.
